Dr. Joseph George Summy "Papa Joe" of Johnson City passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022. He was born October 6, 1949, in Blanco, TX to Guy Andrew Summy and Joan Richardson Summy.
Joe graduated from Johnson City High School in 1968, received his Bachelor's Degree from Southwest Texas State University in 1972 and his Doctorate of Education from Nova University in Florida in 1991. He started his teaching career with the Blanco ISD in 1972. He held many positions with BISD, retiring as Principal in 2001. Joe was an avid reader, he enjoyed Texas History, the Civil War, watching baseball, tending to his plants, a good meal, and he thought the world of his grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Joan Summy; sister, Julie Weiershausen, and father-in-law, Erwin Goebel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Ann Summy; two daughters, Tara Calzoncit and husband Rick, and Kendra Turner; grandchildren, Katlinn, Ashlinn, Audrey, Colt, and Cody; mother-in-law, Opal Goebel; sister, Vicky Patton, brother, Curt Summy and wife Rita; and sister-in-law, Joan Marasek. Joe is also survived by nieces and nephews, Tony (Gayla) Stevenson, Shannon (Mary) Stevenson, Wynn (Kathy) Stevenson, Chris (Holly) Stevenson, Brandon (Jennifer) Weiershausen, Caroline (Nick) Scott, Celeste (Cory) Medulla, Claudia (Jaime) Rincon, Taylor (Michael Trevino) Summy, Brandon (Becky) Eller, and Shauna (Heather) Eller, as well as many great nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services honoring Joe's life will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, February 18, 2022, at Liberty Lighthouse Fellowship, 321 Old River Crossing, Johnson City, TX 78636. Interment will follow in the Johnson City Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to a Community Organization or Church of your choice, Blanco or JC Little League to sponsor a child's fee to play.
