Joseph Dorman Jones was born February 20, 1921 in San Saba, Texas to Frank and Dollie Jones. Growing up he had five older sisters and an older brother. On March 1, 1939 he enlisted in the Cavalry and when WW II started he was sent to the South Pacific where he served until the end of the war. He began civilian life after his discharge on November 26, 1945, then married Doris Evelyn LaFrance on December 28, 1946. He was known to many in Blanco County as J.D. while he worked in precinct two for Commissioner Robert Riddell. He retired from the county at the age of 80. To others J.D. was also known as Brother Joe or Brother Jones as the Pastor of Rocky Creek Community Church. He came to Rocky Creek in 1956 and was the Pastor up until his age and health prevented him from attending services. He passed from this life the evening of January 18, 2018.
Joe Jones was preceded in death by three sons: Rickey Ray, Mickey Joe, and Michael Van. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Doris Jones of Kerrville, Texas. Son Vick Jones and wife Mairi Gray of Leakey, Texas. Granddaughters Kimberly Simon and husband Aaron of Broussard, Louisiana, Cynthia Stephens and husband Tye of Ingram, Texas, and Charlotte Stephens and husband Neill of Kerrville, Texas. Grandsons Christopher Jones of Freer, Texas and Codi Jones and wife Jeannine of Brush Prairie, Washington. Great Grandchildren Ashton Rae Vilcan, Dakota Simon, Kalyn and Kyna Stephens, Clara, Jakob, and Emma Lou Stephens. Great Great Granddaughter Harper LeJeune.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City where funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday afternoon. Interment will follow in Rocky Creek Cemetery.
