Our beloved Kelly B. Prehn of Spicewood, Texas died May 1, 2007 from heart complications due to esophageal cancer. Kelly was born July 20, 1950 to Juanita and Grady Prehn of Johnson City, Texas. Kelly is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy Prehn, his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Amanda Prehn of Austin, his sister Karen and John Luna of San Antonio, Uncle John and Aunt Joann of Spicewood, Aunt Winona Miller of Taylor, Aunt Billie Prehn of San Antonio and Aunt Virginia Beam of Vernon. Many cousins are scattered throughout the Hill Country and many, many friends he cherished greatly.Kelly graduated from LBJ High School in Johnson City in 1968. He attended Southwest Texas State University from 1968-1972 where he received his Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. Kelly worked for the City of Austin from 1974 until he retired in 2000 from the Parks and Recreation department and Austin Energy offices. He also was Ranch Foreman for the RGK Ranch from 1976 to the present time. Kelly's love for the Texas Hill Country and his many friends was so evident throughout his life. He cared deeply about leaving this world in better shape than he found it. He loved the Lord Jesus and belonged to His body at Spicewood Baptist Church. Kelly spent much of his time enjoying the cabin he and Judy built on their property in Blanco County ("The Mountain"). He loved the Hill Country and spent much of his time developing and implementing wildlife management programs for both the Blanco County property and the RGK Ranch. Kelly was published by several magazines, most notably for his work surrounding "Milking Water from the Hills". He enjoyed spending many hours writing about his work and family. He also had a passion for hunting and fishing and spent many decades enjoying the Pedernales River.Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Johnson City. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Johnson City. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Crofts Funeral Home in Johnson City.
