Kittie Clyde Ross Leonard passed away December 12, 2004 in Johnson City, Texas at the age of 97. She was born August 19, 1907 in Blanco, Texas, to Mabel E. Chapman Ross and Emmett Porter Ross. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jimmy, in 1977 and by her step-daughter, Mary Lee Ferry in 2004.She is survived by a son, James Ross Leonard and daughter-in-law, Yvonne Leonard, of Johnson City; a daughter, Jeanette Pickard and son-in law Bill Pickard, of Marble Falls; seven grandchildren and their spouses, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; four step grandchildren, and four step great grandchildren. Kittie Clyde graduated from Johnson City High School in 1924. She attended The University of Texas for a short period, and years later received her bachelor's, then master's degrees from Southwest Texas State Teacher's College. Kittie Clyde began a teaching career in Johnson City in the fall of 1943. She taught, served as elementary school principal and superintendent of Johnson City schools for 25 years. She was one of the first woman superintendents in the state. She then taught in Comal Independent School District in New Braunfels for 4 years. She retired in 1972. After retirement, she served on the Johnson City School Board for several years. Services will be held Wednesday Dec. 15, 2004 at 2:30 pm at Crofts Funeral Home with burial in the Masonic cemetery in Johnson City.
