Obituary

Lola Elsa Flugrath Dowdy , 96, of Blanco, Texas died April 23, 2018 at home with her immediate family.  She died of natural causes after a long struggle with CHF.

She was born September 21, 1921, in Blanco County, Texas, the only daughter of Laura and Gus Flugrath. She had one brother, Marvin (Sammy) Flugrath.  Lola attended and graduated from Blanco High School. She worked in Blanco at the Theater and in San Antonio. Lola attended a dance at Twin Sisters with her parents when and where she informed her mother that she was going to find a Marine that night. That night she met Monroe Dowdy.  Monroe and Lola married on August 10, 1946 and they celebrated their 70 th wedding anniversary in 2016.

The love of her life was her husband and family. She loved sewing, painting, gardening, crafts and mainly shopping. Her closet was always full and with clothes that still had the price tag attached.

She worked beside her husband starting three companies known as Tulsa Chrome, L&M Bumper and Midwest Bumper. Lola and Monroe retired to Blanco.  After retirement, they bought Dowdy Auto Parts in San Antonio. Lola loved to cook, bake and entertain family and friends.  She could put a lunch or dinner together in 20 minutes, if Monroe brought someone unexpected to their home. She always had two or three deserts ready for visitors.

Lola is survived by her children, Ronnie Dowdy of Blanco Texas and daughter Gail Dowdy Neas of Georgetown, Texas. Lola has three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. The grandchildren Danielle and Joshua Nachtigall, Pampa, Texas, Natasha Dowdy, Yukon Oklahoma, Jamie Dowdy, Yukon.  Step grandchildren, Lance Neas, Texhoma, Oklahoma, Traci Neas, Mansfield, Texas, Nicole Patten, Mansfield, Texas. Her great grandchildren include Harper and Sutton Nachtigall and step grandchildren, Brenna Gore, Sarah Schramm, Landrie, Barrett and Cale Patten.

Lola had three nieces, Janice and Rod Culton and their children Brandon, Dane, Callie and Abbie.  Pam Nabers and her children, Kellam and Meagan.  Laurie and Jason Parker and their children, Laine and Logan.  Lola had one sister in law, Irene Pancake, Brothers in law, Gerald Dowdy, Kelly Dowdy and Arlin Dowdy.

A visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Crofts - Crow Funeral Home in Blanco.  Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Blanco.  Burial will follow at Blanco Cemetery.
