Obituary

Tommy Lorraine Joy passed away on August 13, 2022 at her home in Henly. She was born on December 30, 1931 to Tom and Mozelle Sorrell Joy.  She is the granddaughter of Pioneer Settlers of Hays Co.; William Lee and Elizabeth Martin Sorrell.  Also, early settlers of Kimble Co.; Will and Sarah Rogers Joy; and the great granddaughter of Wiley and Elizabeth Frazier Joy.

Lorraine graduated from Johnson City High School in 1949. She went on to study at Southwest Texas State Teachers College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree.

Lorraine taught school in Blanco, Texas from 1953-1955 and then she moved to Corpus Christi to teach History and English at Hamlin Junior High.  She remained at Hamlin Junior High for the remainder of her teaching career.

In 1980, after 30 years of dedicated service she retired to her ranch in Henly where she lived the life she loved taking care of her cattle and goats. Lorraine thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her close friends and family and had a passion for genealogy research.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her father, Tom, her mother Mozelle, and her brother Bill Joy also of Henly. She is survived by her sister Virginia Joy Linder, sister in law Germaine Joy.  Four nieces, to whom Lorraine was known as "Sissy"; Kari and Grady Moreland, Patricia and Ronnie Bushnell, Laurie and Brad May, and Stephanie and Larry Love. Five great nephews Kyle Moreland, Robert and Patrick Singleton, and Ryan and Cooper Love; Two great nieces, Tara and Dana Bushnell.

Lorraine was a member of Edwards Plateau Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and a lifetime member of the Parent Teacher Association.

Please join the family and friends for a visitation Friday, August 19, 2022, 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco, TX.  Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Blanco Cemetery, Blanco, TX.
