Louetta Lange Wolf Felps
(August 7, 1935 – March 18, 2025)
Louetta Meta Lange, born August 7, 1935, in Hye, Texas, was the only child of Cornelius George Lange and Anne (Deike) Lange. Lou grew up on her family ranch located in that same small German community, called Hye; with wonderful family and friends who were close-knit, hard-working farmers and ranchers. Lou was a Lange, Deike, Maenius, Sauer and Brodbeck. She was the great-great-granddaughter of the airship inventor Jacob Brodbeck and his wife Christine. Lou grew up in a household where her first language was German, and did not learn English until she started school at Williams Creek Elementary in Albert, TX. Lou would ride her pony Daisy to school from their ranch on Hye Albert Road and back again. Lou would laugh talking about how Daisy would walk as they were going to school but would run all the way home after school. Lou later attended Lyndon B. Johnson High School in Johnson City where she played basketball and met her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Stockton Wolf. Lou and Bill would marry a few years later, on June 30, 1956.
Lou and Bill moved to Austin to start their lives together where she worked for Southwestern Bell telephone and later became a stay-at-home mom to their two children, William (Bubba) Stockton Wolf, Jr., and Brenda Kay Wolf. After Bill's passing in 1974, Lou began working for the Yaring's Department Store in Austin at the cosmetic and perfume counter. Lou was a beautiful representative of the store as she was always known for her impeccable sense of style and looking her best! During her time in Austin, she also worked for the IRS.
Lou remarried to Donald Franklin Felps in 1979, and several years later moved back to the place she loved the most and would always call home, the Texas Hill County near Johnson City. In the 1980's she would begin her career with the Pedernales Electric Cooperative and worked there until her retirement. Lou was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and traveling with Don to Commemorative Air Force events, enjoying flying and participating in the events.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents Cornelius and Anne Lange, husband Bill Wolf, son Bubba Wolf, grandson Benjamin Wolf Atwood. Also preceding her in death was her second husband, Donald Felps, her stepdaughter Karen Kay Felps, step-granddaughter Amanda Meurer, and most recently Lou's devoted and loving companion, her Australian Shepherd named Abby.
Lou is survived by her daughter Brenda Wolf; daughter-in-law Belinda (Lawson) Wolf; four grandchildren: Derek Wolf (wife Laura), Nicholas Arnold (wife Makaylia), Delanie Wolf (husband Dylan Moses) and Dawson Atwood; five great-grandchildren: Presley Wolf, Jace Moses, Raelynn Arnold, McKenna Arnold, and Cameron Wolf. Three stepchildren also survive Lou: Kathy Harper (husband John and their son Christopher, wife Stephanie and daughter Lilah Guest), Curtis Felps, and Jed Felps (children Jeremy Meurer, Paul Meurer, Daniel Meurer, Laura Meurer-Ritecz, Shannon Meurer, and many grandchildren).
Lou, although an only child, has a cousin who she always considered more of a sister, Vera Mae Deike Kirkham. Not only did the two look alike but they had that special lifetime bond and love for one another that is worth mentioning.
We would like to give special recognition to her long-time friend and caregiver Linda Kester. Linda's unwavering devotion and care gave Lou the opportunity to live the remaining years of her life in her home. Linda's grandson Richard Riley Aguirre, a strong and compassionate young man, also provided great help to Lou in times of weakness. The family is forever grateful to Linda and Riley for the love and companionship they showed towards Lou.
Memorial service will be on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Liberty Lighthouse Fellowship Church located on 321 Old River Crossing, Johnson City, TX 78636. Pastor Jimmy Boatwright will officiate followed by a graveside service at Rocky Creek Cemetery located at 1324 Rocky Rd., Hye, TX 78635. A reception celebrating Lou's life will be held following the graveside service at the Williams Creek School House and Community Center located on Ranch Road 1623 in Albert, Texas.
