Obituary

Mable Lucille Newman , a dedicated nurse and beloved member of her community, passed away on June 9, 2023, at the age of 102. She was born on April 26, 1921, in Fairland, TX, Burnet County, to her parents Joseph Peter "Murphy" Crider and Rose Gibson.

Lucille's life was marked by compassion, commitment, and love for her family. She dedicated her career to nursing, a profession she entered in 1956. Lucille's expertise and caring nature made a significant impact in the healthcare field, as she served as the administrator of both the Johnson City Hospital and the Nursing Home.

In 1947, Lucille entered a loving union with her husband, Samuel Dudley Newman, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised a family. She experienced the heartbreak of losing three beloved sons, Jimmy Charles Hanberry, Dudley Ray Newman, and August Newman, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Otto, Ray, Pete, and sisters Angeline, Hun, and Sarah.

Lucille is survived by her son James and his wife Karen Newman, who were a constant source of joy and support in her life. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother and leaves behind a legacy of love for her grandchildren: David Newman Cox and his wife Catherine, Melissa Dibiase and her husband Cole, Kate Clower and her husband George, Heath Hamilton and his wife Kathleen, Jared Hamilton and his wife Amanda. Her presence will be greatly missed by her twelve great-grandchildren.

Outside of her professional accomplishments, Lucille was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) and a faithful member of the Johnson City Baptist Church. Her devotion to these organizations reflected her commitment to service, community, and spiritual growth.

Lucille had a profound appreciation for the beauty of nature, particularly flowers. However, above all else, Lucille treasured the time spent with her family. Whether it was gathering for holidays, sharing stories, or simply being in each other's company, those moments held a special place in her heart.

Lucille's impact as a nurse, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend will be forever cherished. Her kindness, dedication, and unwavering love will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She leaves behind a profound legacy of compassion and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
