Obituary

Lyndon C. (Lindy) McCarty

1943-2016

Lyndon C. McCarty was born September 1, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas to Charles O. and Edyth Rust McCarty. On Tuesday, April 19, 2016 he passed away peacefully, one day prior to the 36th anniversary of his mother's death. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles O. McCarty Jr. He is survived by his daughter Leisha C. and husband Jeff Mamera of Houston, Tx., son Lyndon C. McCarty Jr. and wife Michelle of Dripping Springs. Tx. a sister Sally F. McCarty of Houston, Tx. six grandchildren; Aidan, Ethan, Lauren, Matthew Emily and Andrew. In 1961 after graduation from Highlands High School and turning down an appointment to the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, he opted to stay in San Antonio and continue the family business, McCarty Construction Company. Within time he formed a partnership with Stich Construction and continued that until he moved his family in 1977 to Henly, Tx to live on the family ranch. At that time he reestablished McCarty Construction Company in the Henly, Wimberley and Austin areas. His last project before forced retirement for health reasons was Shepherd of the Hills Christian Church in Austin, Tx. He will be remember for his sense of humor, hospitality, generosity, his love of nature, animals and gardening, love for cooking and sharing his concoctions with the world, and last but not least, his selfless love  of his family. He felt his greatest accomplishment was his children and his grandchildren.

The following letter received by his family, sent from his cardiologist of 25 years sums up his spirit:

"Please accept my sincerest and deepest condolences for your loss. I beg your pardon for this impersonal means of communication. As you are aware, I have known Lyndon for about 25 years. I was always impressed by his discipline. He changed his lifestyle, habits, made it to every inconvenient appointment, and took all his medications exactly as directed, even if he didn't like the way he felt with the medications. He was really a fighter, I watched him overcome and bounce back from many life threatening complication of his illness starting back in 2006 up until the very end. His resilience was innate, I believe, part of his nature, not the result of any fear. He was always ready to accept any fate the Lord put before him. As I talked to him about advanced therapies, his concern was not about himself, but rather the stress this surgery and subsequent treatment would put on his family and friends. As his condition worsened, and I explained that we had run out of options his response was for me not to fret about it and he thanked me. I think what impressed me most about Lyndon was his tranquility and faith that was so apparent to me in the final days. I truly watched a man walk in the shadows of the valley of death, without a hint of fear or anxiety. Lyndon always showered me with compliments. But I have to say that I am the one that learned from him and gained more from this relationship. I will miss him greatly.

Sincerely, John Dieck"
