Obituary

Mary Lynn (Hasbrook/Matjeka) Riley

Lynn's father called her his "little ray of sunshine" and that truly described Lynn. She loved painting and drawing, photography, decorating and any sort of crafts and creating. She was dedicated mother to her children and truly perfected herself as Grandmother, spending many hours watching and listening to recitals, baseball, softball and basketball games. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, telling stories and recently said how much she enjoyed texting with her grandchildren as older kids and adults. She would drop whatever she was doing to help someone and always had a kind attitude towards others. She spent her time volunteering in several organizations in Johnson City, visiting friends in nursing homes, and tending to her large collection of plants. She loved to renovate old houses, loved antiques and painted beautifully in oil and watercolor. She was also a brilliant thinker and spent many hours reading and discussing important topics from psychology to philosophy. In her life, Lynn lived in San Antonio, Houston, Alabama, East Tennessee and a number of towns in the Texas Hill Country, the area she loved so dearly. Lynn will be terribly missed by everyone who knew her.

Mary Lynn Riley was born October 23, 1943 to Robert L. and Mary Jane (Durham) Hasbrook in San Antonio, TX. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1961 and married Robert T. (Bob) Matjeka in 1962. Their two children, James (Derek) Matjeka of Blanco and Suzanne Bell and husband Mitchel, of Fredericksburg, survive. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Tyler Matjeka of Waco, Shelby Matjeka of Blanco, and Emily Matjeka Uballe and husband Aaron of Marble Falls, as well as Heath, Loxi, Lainne and Jack Bell of Fredericksburg. She is also survived by her siblings and spouses, Vicki and Bill Padgett of San Antonio, Robert and Roz Hasbrook of Albuquerque, NM, and John and Sarah Hasbrook of San Antonio. She was predeceased by her parents and youngest brother Matthew Hasbrook, as well as her children's father, Bob Matjeka.

She passed peacefully during the night at her home in Johnson City, TX on July 28, 2018. Her service will be held at First Baptist Church, 102 N Avenue F, Johnson City, TX 78636 at 11am, Saturday August 4, 2018, with visitation at 10am.
