Obituary

Margaret Mearle Lackey Evans Withers was born December 12, 1921, at Port Arthur, Texas and died on January 1, 2007, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg at the age of 85 years. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas, where she met William Pope Evans. They were married in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1948.Also preceding her in death were parents John Ira and Linnie Mae Mayfield Lackey and 3 sisters and one brother.She married Nelson Withers in 1952. She spent her life as a homemaker. Besides her family and her church, painting was her passion until 1996 when Margaret became ill. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir at the First Baptist Church for many years, helped design a new church after the original burned and was a founding member of the Johnson City Art Guild. Her fighting spirit these last ten years since a stroke will continue to inspire us all.Margaret is survived by her husband Nelson of Johnson City; her daughter Pat Dildine and husband Lawrence; sons Theodore Nelson (Sonny) Withers, Jr. of Burnet and John Dale Withers of Austin; grandsons Keith and Kelly Dildine of Austin; granddaughter Kecia Hunt and husband Kevin of San Antonio; and great grandson Dylan Hunt of San Antonio. Margaret is also survived by her brothers-in-law Joe Casparis and W. E. Withers and sister-in-law Dorothy Lackey of Johnson City. Memorials may be made to North Blanco Emergency Medical Services (NBCEMS) or to the First Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
