Mark Allen Hicks passed away on Sunday, September 22, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mark's battle began when he was diagnosed while at Abilene Christian University. He was treated, and despite what for many would be a life-changing event, Mark forged ahead with his life and married the love of his life, Debra Hicks (nee Watson, from Texas City) in the summer of 1979. At this time he began a career in software and banking that would last for 32+ years until cancer very unexpectedly reappeared.
Mark was valued by all who knew him for his keen wit, infectious personality, and his devotion to family.
Mark was a resident of Johnson City from 1966 through his junior year in 1973, at which time his family moved to Temple, Texas and he finished high school there. He graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1978.
He was preceded in death by his mother, the former Sibyl Gersbach, school nurse for the Johnson City schools from 1966 to 1973, and step-brother Dan Gersbach.
He leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Debra Hicks, their three children; Joshua Hicks; Kristen Hicks; Jason Hicks and his wife Paula, and their 2 children, Kayden and Rilo.
He also leaves behind; brother David Hicks and his wife Connie of Rogers, Texas; Debbie Hicks Hughes and her husband Bob of Kingwood, Texas; and Patty Hicks of Conroe, Texas.
He also leaves behind various nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the sanctuary of Canyon Creek Church of Christ/The Vine, in Temple, TX on Saturday, September 28th, at 1PM. A visitation with the family will be held immediately following at approximately 2PM in the reception hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to NEEMA House (an orphanage in Tanzania, Africa), care of the CCCoC/The Vine.
