Obituary

Martha Ann Lasseter Strong , age 88; born October 23, 1934, in Honey Grove, Texas, and passed April 20, 2023, in Austin. She was the youngest of four children of William Ernest Lasseter and Alma Ann McKnight. She married Felix Prunty Peppard MD in 1953 and had one son, Richard Mark Peppard DDS, in 1954. After divorce, Ann married Robert Watt Strong (Bobby) 1967; deceased 2016.

"Annie" is survived by her son and his wife Janie (Wallace); two grandchildren, Sara Peppard Carter (Chris Ollier) and Andrew Kenneth Peppard (Nicole Bernard MD), great grandchildren Cade and Claire Carter and Ashton Mark Peppard.

Ann grew up moving around east Texas as her father moved from town to town administering school districts; from Honey Grove, to Jacksonville, to Henderson, to Mexia, to Marlin, to Kyle and finally to Austin where she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. She was much younger than her brothers who all served in WWII, were married and out of the house. She adored her 7 nieces and nephews! After William Ernest's death in 1953, Alma Ann ("Nana") opened Lasseter Room and Boarding House at 21 st and Nueces in Austin, as well as a boarding house at 23 rd and Leon.

Ann married Felix Prunty Peppard who was promptly drafted, and they moved to El Paso, TX., living at Ft. Bliss. Their son, Mark, was born in 1954. The family moved back to Austin for Felix to earn his degree and become accepted to medical school in Dallas in 1957. After divorcing in 1964, Ann and Mark moved back to Austin and moved into Nana's boarding house while Ann pursued her degree at the University of Texas, going on to achieve two more degrees in Sociology, one of which required an internship at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, TX (1967-68). Once completed, back to Austin where Ann had met Bob Strong who lived at Mrs. Lasseter's boarding houses. They married in 1967.

With three degrees from the University of Texas at Austin (a fourth should have been geology), Ann taught and wrote curriculum in many different subjects. She developed and ran the Social Work program at St. Edwards Univ. for eight years. Next, she taught management courses for the City of Austin. Also, courses in customer service, diversity, and training were among the courses she taught at Texas Dept. of Transportation. After retiring from the state, Ann Strong continued to teach cultural foundation courses, such as American Experience and American Dilemmas at St. Edwards. Bob and Ann retired to their property in Henly, Texas where she enjoyed the rocks and crystals she collected from all over the world.
