Mary Nancy
Champion
Jun 22, 1942 — Feb 15, 2021
Blanco
Mary Nancy Champion of Blanco peacefully passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021, at the LBJ Medical Center nursing home in Johnson City. She was called to her heavenly home by her LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, after battling complications from Covid-19. She was surrounded by the amazing and loving staff at LBJ, and was comforted in the days and weeks prior by the presence of her family and countless prayers of those who knew and loved her.
Nancy was born on June 22, 1942, in Laredo, Texas to Geraldine "Jerry" Candlin Copeland and Benjamin Maurice Copeland, Sr. The family soon moved to Blanco, where Nancy attended Blanco Elementary School. After the family moved to Fort Worth, she graduated from Polytechnic High School. Nancy went on to study art at Arlington State (now The University of Texas at Arlington). After beginning her career as a freelance artist in the fashion industry in the Dallas area, she met Don Champion, the man who would be her life-long partner and husband for 46 years until his passing in 2013. Nancy spent her career working in the fashion and advertising world as an artist and art director. Her artistic talents were prolific and always on display, whether formally in the various mediums she was always working to master such as watercolors, oils, pencils, etc., to how she decorated her home and served meals to family and friends. Nancy was always known for having a smile as big as she was. She loved being in the presence of her family and friends. Some of her favorite times were spent on trips with her lifelong college friends. Nancy cherished her familial roles, and enlarged her family over the years by always opening her home and heart to those outside her immediate family. Never one to make a distinction as to how one became part of her family, she welcomed all into her life as if they were her own. Her warm and generous spirit was always on display, willing to give away what she had to anyone who had a need. Loved by all who knew her, she will be missed by all of her family and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Don Champion; her parents, Benjamin and Jerry Copeland; and her brother, Ben Copeland. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Dawn Champion; and grandkids, Ashton Kannenberg, Brett Champion, Christyn Champion, Mindi Creager Soto, Matt Champion, and Madison Torres.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at First Baptist Church of Blanco. An online option will be made available and details can be found at: https://www.crofts-crowfuneralhome.com/ .
