Monroe was born on January 5, 1924, in Kendalia, Texas to George Leslie and Dovie (Gourley) Dowdy. Monroe was a Marine and served in WWII form 1942 to 1946. After the war, he returned to Blanco and attended a dance at Twin Sisters. That night he met Lola Flugrath. Monroe and Lola married on August 10, 1946 and they celebrated their 70 th wedding anniversary this year. The love of his life was his wife and family. He loved ranching and working. After moving back to Blanco, he served on the Board of Directors for Gem of the Hills. He started three companies as the CEO of Tulsa Chrome, L&M Bumper and Midwest Bumper. After retirement, he was bored and bought Dowdy Auto Parts in San Antonio. He loved ranching and his cows. He would go and watch the cows daily. He loved to sit at the table and have coffee with friends and relatives. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sister: Dorothy, Marjorie, Jesse Mae, Louise, Gilbert, Faye and Ray.
Survived by his wife Lola Dowdy, son, Ronnie Dowdy and daughter Gail Dowdy Neas, all currently living in Blanco at the ranch. Three brothers; Kelly, Arlin and Gerald Dowdy all of Blanco, a sister; Irene Pancake also of Blanco. Monroe has three grand children, and two great grandchildren. The grandchildren Danielle and Joshua Nachtigall, Pampa, Texas, Natasha Dowdy, Yukon Oklahoma, Jamie Dowdy, Yukon. Step grandchildren Lance Neas, Texahoma Oklahoma, Traci Neas, Mansfield, Texas, Nicole and Randy Patten, Mansfield, Texas. His great grandchildren include Harper and Sutton Nachtigal and step grandchildren, Brenna Gore, Sarah Schramm, Landrie, Barrett and Cale Patten. He had one grand dog, Gizmo, that stayed at his side.
The family would like to thank Hill Country Memorial Hospice for their dedication and care that they provided. Laura Mc Clinton for her care and joy that she bought to the family.
