Monta Virginia Barry Knoll passed away peacefully on February 26, 2018 in Stephenville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Ouisa Juanita Barry Boyd and Claude Hewitt Barry , by her brother Dwight Barry, and by her husband of sixty-two years, Marvin "Dick" Knoll. Monta is survived by her sons George Edward Knoll, Dwight Alan Knoll, and Harold Wade Knoll; her daughters-in-law Cathy Dolan Knoll, Paula Jean Johnson Knoll, and Loretta Eckelkamp Knoll; her grandchildren Katy Lark Knoll Jordan and husband Garrett Wynne Jordan, Aubrey Jordan Knoll Moore and husband Dennis Joe Moore, Jr., Thomas Marvin Knoll and wife Kimberly Carole Knoll, Dwight Thomas Knoll, and Chrissy Flores and husband Armando Flores, Jr.; and four great-grandchildren Peter Robert Knoll, Gage Welkin Jordan, Simon Flores, and Saxon Flores.
Monta was born in Crowell, Texas on September 10, 1926. While working at a bank in Austin, Texas, she met Marvin "Dick" Knoll whom she married on November 23, 1947. They lived in Blanco, Texas, raising their family, serving the community, and operating Knoll Blacksmith and Sheet Metal Shop in Blanco, Texas for over five decades. Monta and Dick traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and 22 foreign countries.
Monta served the community in a variety of capacities over the years. She was a served as a volunteer in the Blanco public schools, in Cub Scouts, Blanco Good Samaritan Center, American Legion Ladies Auxilary, AARP, and at Trinity Lutheran Church. Monta was instrumental in getting the Gem of the Hills Community Center built and operating, served on the board for over 20 years, and was a serious competitor in the 42 Club at the Center. She played a key role in developing and maintaining the Blanco Community Education Program which provided a wide variety of interesting continuing education opportunities for many people of all ages. Monta was a Charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 934 in Blanco and was a member for 69 years. She was recently honored by her peers at Oakwood Assisted Living in Stephenville, TX as the recipient of the monthly Silver Star award.
Monta loved good food, competitive games, travel, conversations with friends and family, and opportunities to serve her community. She will be missed by many.
Visitation is at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home in Blanco, Texas from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018. The funeral is 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blanco, Texas on Saturday, March 3, 2018, with burial at the Blanco Cemetery. All are invited to a lunch at Trinity Lutheran Church following the funeral and graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Monta's memory to the Gem of the Hills Community Center P. O. Box 1572 Blanco, TX 78606 or to the Scholarship Fund, Blanco Eastern Star #934, 109 Abierta Cove, Blanco, TX 78606.
