Myra Jean Haynes (Maenius), of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, September 15th, 2016 at the age of 65. Myra is survived by her sister, Donna Felps and husband Thomas; seven nieces and nephews: Myron Felps; Tatum Craig and husband Garrett; Lindy Harris; Cassie Maenius; Michael Maenius; Glory Maenius and Walt Maenius.
She was born to Werner Maenius and Edna Raulz on December 11, 1950. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Boysie Maenius.
Myra was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt. She didn't have children of her own, so she was sure to shower her nieces and nephews with love and gifts. Holidays were a very special time for Myra, especially Christmas. She loved to spend days baking cookies for family and friends. Myra had a passion for Christmas decorations and couldn't wait until she could go out buy new and fun Christmas décor. She also love wood working and painting and enjoyed creating Christmas scenes for both her family and the bank. Myra created a tradition at Christmas buying hundreds of dollars of lottery tickets for everyone to scratch. Myra loved the outdoors from an early age. She enjoyed sitting on the banks fishing and was a keen hunter, withstanding cold and rain for a big buck to step into her sights. Myra was always tall, graceful, and athletic. Entering high school is where her athletic ability really started to shine. With a long and powerful stride, Myra was a force to be reckoned with on the track field. She won numerous meets in the 220 and 440, along with being a leader on all the relays. She helped lead her team to the State meet many times. Her greatest accomplishment came when she won the State Title in the Triple Jump in 1967. She was an aggressive and tenacious forward in basketball, leading the team to numerous wins. As she got older she found a new love for volleyball, traveling across the state to watch all her nieces play. Myra was a big sports enthusiast and could be caught yelling at the TV when her team wasn't playing well. And, she loved to put money on her team in the local football squares. Myra was also Homecoming Queen in 1969, and a runner-up in the Blanco County Fair and Rodeo Queen Contest. Over the years, Myra worked at PEC, and then owned and operated a video store for many years. Her greatest joy came from working at Lone Star (formerly Cattleman's) Bank in Johnson City. She enjoyed meeting new people and visiting with old and familiar friends. In the afternoons, she enjoyed sitting on the porch at her mom's house watching the deer, turkeys, and enjoying a cold beer. She could spend hours sitting in her chair reading, working crossword puzzles, and hollering at the tv when someone couldn't get the word right on wheel of fortune. Myra was always a fighter. She battled and beat cancer over 15 years ago and was determined to do so again. She smiled courageously and always responded… "it is what it is". She was a loved family member and friend to many and will greatly be missed by all who knew her.
