Oscar "Bruce" Hobbs, 74, went to his heavenly home June 3, 2017 in Round Rock, Texas. Bruce was born to Oscar and Emma Seiler Hobbs October 20, 1942 in the old Blanco Hospital, in Blanco, Texas. Just weeks after his birth, his father left he and his mother Emma, for three years to serve in the United States Army Air Corp. Upon Oscar's return, Bruce was blessed with a baby sister, Mona Jane, a baby brother Jerry Monroe, and much later another sister Brenda Sue. Life in the Hobbs household was filled with love, laughter and respect. Bruce worked various jobs in his teen years, mainly with his Uncles, and later alongside his Dad at Crofts Grocery and Market.
From an early age, music was one of Bruce's great passions. One of his fondest memories to share, was the talent show at the FFA National Convention in Kansas City, in which he and his band took first place. The 'Rocking Eagles" which consisted of Frank and Bobby Weirich, John B. Stevenson, Ronnie Furber, and Bruce continued to play around the Johnson City area for a couple of years.
Bruce graduated from Johnson City High School, in May of 1961. After staying in Johnson City for several months, he moved to Austin to attend business college and went to work for the Johnson family at KTBC Radio. He married the love of his life, Jean Poenisch on June 26, 1964. He was blessed with his first child, Kari Annette in 1966, a son, Christopher Bruce in 1969, and his baby, Kimberli Dawn in 1972. After leaving KTBC, Bruce went on to work at the Texas Department of Agriculture for 17 years, and then the Texas Water Development Board until his retirement in 2002.
Bruce enjoyed singing, hunting, coffee, their property in San Saba, fishing on the Pecos River, friends, and most of all being "Big Daddy" to his family and his grandchildren.
After 53 years of marriage, Bruce is survived by his lovely wife Jean, his daughter Kari Annette Votaw of Cedar Park, his son Christopher Bruce Hobbs of Cedar Park, his daughter Kimberli Dawn Robinson and son-in-law Eric Robinson of Granbury. Grandchildren Tiffani, Shelby, Jeffrey, Casey, Cody, and Cooper and great grandson Bruce. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Monroe and wife, Sharon, his little sister Brenda Haynes and husband Frank, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bruce was proceeded in death by his parents Oscar and Emma Hobbs, and his sweet sister Mona Jane Sultemeier.
Pallbearers are grandsons Jeffrey Robinson, Cody Votaw, Cooper Hobbs, his nephews Shannon and Shelby Sultemeier, Anson Haynes, Jeffrey and Russell Hobbs, and his longtime friends, Jack Gillentine and Charlie Bisson.
Honorary Pallbearers are granddaughters Tiffany Hobbs, Shelby Crow, and Casey Hobbs.
