Obituary

Paul E. Gosnell , born December 30, 1922 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed peacefully through death and into eternal life with Jesus Christ on October 5, 2023.  A decorated World War II combat infantryman in the European Theater, Paul married Sybil Lee Henderson on June 23, 1942.  Theirs was to be a special, loving marriage for almost 70 years. He lost Sybil to Alzheimer's in 2011 and spent the next 12 years living between his home in Livingston, Texas; his eldest son's home in Blanco, Texas; and the Windcrest Memory Care facility in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Paul is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law: Wayne and Martha Gosnell of Blanco, TX; Larry and Ruth Gosnell of Humble, TX; and David and Barbara Gosnell of Athens, TX.  He had ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews, and hundreds of friends.

Returning from WWII, Paul first became a truck driver, then a diesel mechanic, a field at which he excelled.  He later taught diesel mechanics at Oklahoma Technical College in Okmulgee.  In 1955, he took a job with the Western Company, an oil well service company, and moved the family to Texas where he helped pioneer fracking techniques in the West Texas oil fields. He was later hired by Stewart and Stevenson Services, a world-wide diesel manufacturing and oil industry service company based in Houston where he served many years as the General Service Manager.  He retired in 1987 as the Director of Engineering for what had by then become a multi-billion-dollar multinational corporation.

In 1989, after living in Forest Cove, a suburb north of Houston, for 23 good years, Paul and Sybil moved to their lakeside home on Lake Livingston where they lived for six wonderful, fun-filled years before building Sybil's dream home in Livingston.  Paul was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and for many happy years enjoyed fishing on Lake Livingston, riding his motorcycle around East Texas, and RVing with Sybil wherever the wind blew them.

Paul was a member of the First Methodist Church of Livingston, Texas and a regular attendee at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blanco. Services will be held at 11am, Thursday, October 12th, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Interment will be at Rosewood Cemetery in Humble, Texas at 3pm on October 13th, where he will lie in rest with his beloved wife, Sybil, and his parents, Elmer and Mary Gosnell.
