Obituary

Paul Lee Watt, 83, of Johnson City, died peacefully at his home on October 28th with his loving wife Sheryl at his side. He was born June 6, 1943 in Austin, Texas, the son of Charles and Shireen Watt.

Paul was a happy, fun-lovlng and quick-witted guy who loved to make people laugh. In later years as church usher, he was also known as a good hugger. He served his country in both the Texas National Guard and Army Reserve.

Paul liked competing with dogs and horses. His interest in hunting with coon dogs led to the faster sport of greyhound racing which began his long career as a greyhound breeder, trainer and race track kennel owner. After stepping back from raising and training in later years, he remained an active kennel owner until the last Texas track closed, finishing the meet as top kennel. He was a life-time member of the National Greyhound Association and Texas Greyhound Association where he served as a director until he was no longer able. As a side hobby, he also rode and showed cutting horses for some years. After moving from Elgin to Johnson City he began riding motorcycles, continuing until he was 80. He also became quite a good cook.

Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sheryl, sisters Renee (Clayton) Moden and Maria (Steve) Carpenter, nieces Hillary and Nicole, nephews Carl, Donnie and Charlie, and his little dog Mercy.

A memorial service will be held at the Johnson City First Methodist Church on November 14th at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church Activity Center.

A heartfelt thanks goes out to the Blanco County EMS and CPS, Methodist Hill Country Hospice, and neighbors and friends who helped Paul during his last few years.
