Priscilla "Cilla"
Sue Goeken
Jan 7, 1954 — Aug 9, 2024
Johnson City
A Sparkle of Life ––
Priscilla Sue Pitts Goeken of Johnson City, Texas passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024 at her home in Johnson City, TX. As in life, she was surrounded by loving family and friends up until the very end.
Priscilla was born January 7, 1954 in Houston, Texas to Sam Stanford Pitts and Ednanne (Sexton) Pitts. She was raised in Conroe, TX and graduated from Conroe High School, Class of '72.
Continuing her education, Priscilla earned her Bachelor's Degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. As an educator, Priscilla taught 1st and 5th grades around Texas including Austin and Galveston, before following her passion for travel and adventure. In 1978 she embarked on a European work trip that would change the trajectory of her life completely.
While teaching in Germany, she happened to meet a fellow Texan, Charles Austin "Chuck" Goeken. What started as a chance meeting on an Octoberfest bus near Munich would eventually become a devoted and loving relationship of 43 years. She and Chuck moved back to Austin and then eventually to their property at Hye, TX in the early 90's to raise three boys.
In addition to her husband Chuck, Priscilla is survived by her three sons, Gregory Goeken, Russell Goeken and wife Anissa, and Steven Goeken and wife Michelle.
Always up for a festive party or a unique experience, she became the stalwart of family gatherings and genealogy. Every year, she hosted many family and friend holidays. Along with Chuck, Cilla became synonymous with "hospitality." She is survived by her siblings, Becky Wellborn and husband Ron, Pamela Cross and ex-husband Duane, and Bill Pitts and wife Loree, with whom she maintained deep and loving relationships.
True to form, another grand adventure began in 2004, taking Cilla, Chuck, and son Steven to London, England for a year before settling back stateside, splitting time between Savannah, GA and Johnson City, TX to dote on the next generation. Cilla is survived by three adoring grandchildren, Sebastian, Sabine, and Lianna. Always ready to make some pancakes, watch a movie with popcorn, or play a wicked game of cards, numerous nieces and nephews also remember Aunt Cilla fondly as a shining light.
Whether it be an overseas adventure or a cozy gathering of friends and family, those who knew her will always remember Cilla as a festive, fiery, five-foot-tall Sparkle of Life.
