Obituary

Raymond Elroy Singleton passed away on January 30, 2025 at the age of 91. He was born on August 3, 1933 to Charles and Mittie Singleton in Spicewood, Texas. He grew up in Singleton Bend, running through the woods with his two best friends, who were also his cousins, Lona Mae (Hall) Sheffield and Herschel Singleton. In 1952, he went to work for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company and drove a distribution route that served The University of Texas at Austin. In 1953, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the artillery division until 1955. During this time, he was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. Upon his discharge from the Army, he went back to work for Coca-Cola until he retired in 1987 with over 30 years of service. With his experience of driving a Coca-Cola truck, he began driving a bus route for the Austin Independent School District in 1987 until 1995, when he fully retired. In 1998, after his wife Charlene retired from her job at the Department of Public Safety, they wasted no time in moving to Blanco, Texas, and moved into a home they built on the Lindeman Ranch, where Charlene grew up. He became a rancher, raising Boer goats, and made countless birdhouses for friends and family in his woodshop.

He was a long-time member of the Cameron Road Church of Christ in Austin and an elder at the Blanco Church of Christ. Raymond is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlene Lindeman Singleton, and their four children Carole Bearden and her husband Terry; Julie Young and her husband Jeff; Joel Singleton and his wife Julie; and Paul Singleton and his wife Stephanie; five grandchildren, Tyler, William, Nicholas, Fabian, and Adrian; and one great-grandson Vilimir; His brother, James Singleton and longtime friend Willie Torres; and family members Harvie Lindeman and Denise Garza, Carroll & Tina Lindemann, and Pat Caza; and many nieces and nephews.

The family thanks Dr. John Weaver and Jenifer Grubbs for the excellent medical care they provided to Raymond, Blanco EMS, Lily Nery and Hector Escobedo with Methodist Home Health, and longtime friend Kent Weber.
