Obituary

Raymond Lester Wagner, 84, was called home on Thursday, December 11, 2014 just days after celebrating 67 years of marriage to his lifelong love, Imogene. He was born in Blanco, Texas on December 26, 1929 to Solomon James Wagner and Ethel Mae Brooks. He started his working life building fences and sheering sheep alongside his father and 2 brothers. On December 6, 1947, Raymond married Imogene Triesch, & the two moved to Corpus Christi. It was there that he began working in road construction with Mickey McGuire & then as a superintendant for J.M. Dellinger, working on several notable highway projects including the building of I-35. In 1968, Raymond moved his family to San Antonio, where he became a partner in Cloud Paving in 1971. In 1976, he founded Wagner & Sons Paving with his sons Ronnie & Steve. After retiring from the construction industry in 1991, he continued to work as a rancher & farmer, & joked that on Sundays he'd head home from church & "work on the couch." In 1992, he formed Imogene Wagner Co, Inc., which in 1995, with his son Steve, branched into Wagner Materials & Construction.

Raymond truly knew how to live life, & brought joy & laughter to everyone he met. He is described by many as a man of integrity, humor, strength, compassion, generosity & resolve. He will be remembered by his friends & family not only for his countless witty catchphrases, but also for the Godly & incredibly loving man he was throughout life.

Raymond has been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1973, in addition to being a member of Greater SA Builders Exchange, Association of General Contractors of Texas, Texas Farm Bureau, Twin Sisters Hall Board, Anhault Germania Farmer Verein & A member of the unofficial "Bulverde Feed & Seed Men's Coffee & Taco Society" where he said they "didn't gossip, only shared prayer requests."

He was preceded in death by his father, mother & step-mother Josephine Weaver Wagner, his grandson Toby Wagner, and 7 siblings.

He is survived by wife Imogene, daughter Sallie, son Ronnie Wagner & wife Karen, son Steve Wagner & wife Marcie, daughter Lynn Ann Denny & husband James, brother RV Wagner, sisters Yvonne Triesch and Helen Knoll, 14 grandchildren & their spouses, 19.2 great grandchildren, & the Triesch family.
