Obituary

Reva Renee Cicero, 61, passed away at her home Monday, November 6, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Renee was born in San Antonio, TX to Louis Malcolm and Reva Thompson Mobley.  She was preceded in death by her father.  Renee is survived by her loving husband, Ray Blue; mother, Reva Mobley McIntosh, son, Jeremy Cicero and wife Deidre and sons Brandon and Clayton Cicero; step-children, Heather and Rocky Blue; two brothers, Grady Mobley and wife Clara and Steven Mobley; grandchildren, Emmy Jean & Case Malcolm Cicero and Harper Blue.  Renee is also survived by four nieces, two nephews and many other loving relatives and dear friends. Renee enjoyed spending time with her family at their family ranch as well as boating and traveling. Renee was a trailblazing labor leader who stood for rights of working people. She made significant sacrifices in her life to advance the interest of family, co-workers and working families throughout our country.

Renee started as a local union representative in the Southwest Reservation Center, in San Antonio for the International Association of Machinist & Aerospace Workers (IAMAW).  It didn't take long before her leadership capabilities lead to being elected as President of IAMAW Local Lodge 2210.   She volunteered to be an organizer protecting her co-workers and expanding the unionized labor force at Southwest Airlines.

She fought for women to be acknowledged in leadership roles within the IAMAW and was elected into positions that were predominately held by men. Renee was elected as a General Chairperson for the IAMAW Air Transport District 142 in September 1994.  In January of 2000, she became a Special Representative for the IAMAW Transportation Department and subsequently promoted to Grand Lodge Representative on July 1, 2001.  She served in this capacity until her retirement in 2014.

As a leader, she never forgot those at Southwest Airlines and was an ardent advocate to improve their working conditions and benefits. Sister Renee worked with as one of six people who became known as "The Team."  The Team had many battles, and victories. The success of the Team was in large part to The Sisters ability to connect with all people. She clearly was a people person that attracted many others join with her.

Renee made all of us better people and leaders and leaves a legacy for others, especially women to follow.
