Richard Carlos Giller was born on August 24, 1938 in Asherton, Texas to Telma and Francis Giller and went home to be with Jesus on April 29, 2019 in Runaway Bay, Texas.  He was the baby of 5 children.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years, our mom, Patricia Giller, two daughters, Lezlie Boggess (Butch) and Richanne Riojas (Roy), grandsons Blake Boggess (Madison) and Brandon Boggess (Chelsea), one granddaughter, Jenna Richanne Hannum, and one great grandson, Hudson Grant Boggess.  He is also survived by his brother, Marcus Eugene Giller (Amparo).  Richard is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laurel Giller, parents Francis and Telma Giller, brother Don Giller, and two sisters, Florrie Martin and Barbara Terry.

Richard lived a very full life and was full of life until the day he left this earth.  He grew up in Asherton and Pearsall, Texas.  He graduated from Pearsall High School where he was the star running back for the Pearsall Mavericks football team.  He attended college at Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas and Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.  Richard met Patricia at a dance in 1957 at Garner State Park.  He asked her to dance with him, and she famously turned him down.  Having never been turned down before, he didn't know what to do next, so he asked her if he could sit down next to her and she told him it's a free country, sit where you want.  She finally agreed to that dance and the rest is history.  They were blissfully married for 58 years and had an amazing life together.  Richard loved his wife with every bit of his being.  She was his queen and he told her that all the time.  There wasn't a day that went by that he didn't tell her how much he loved her and how beautiful she was.

Richard worked for The American Tobacco Company and managed Kroger and HEB grocery stores before becoming a full time minister.  He was the pastor of Church of the Open Door in Corpus Christi, Texas and then moved to Rockport to pastor Fulton Community Church for 28 years before he retired in 2009.  Richard and Patricia moved to Runaway Bay, Texas to live on Lake Bridgeport where he enjoyed golf, fishing and visiting with the neighbors, who, like most people, were instantly drawn to his charismatic and energetic personality.  Richard and Patricia attended The Bay Church and of course, they were there on Sunday, the day before he died.  Richard never met a stranger and was always the center of attention wherever he went.  He was a very unique person and there will never be another one like him, ask anybody and they'll agree.
