Robert (Bob) Wayne Johnson , of Johnson City, Texas, passed away on September 22, 2023, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family and friends. Bob was born to Finis (Bub) and Ellen (Irene) Johnson on September 10th, 1942. One of 10 siblings, he grew up on a farm in Liberty Hill, Texas.
After graduating High School, Bob joined the US Navy, where he proudly served aboard the USS Lexington. His active duty was extended due to his service during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was during a port of call at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where he met the love of his life, Maureen O'Hagan. They just celebrated their 58th anniversary together. After his duty with the Navy, Bob worked as a distributor for the Icee Company in the Texas Hill Country, before relocating to New York City where he worked for 20 years as an Electrical Mechanic at Con Edison. In 1990, Bob and Maureen returned to Texas, where he worked for 16 years at PEC, until his retirement in 2006. He loved his life on his ranch in Johnson City, where he raised cattle and enjoyed the wonderful wildlife around him. He loved following his favorite sports teams, the Dallas Cowboys, the UT Longhorns, the New York Yankees, and the New York Rangers.
Bob is survived by his wife Maureen, his son Robert Johnson and his wife Kathleen, his son Patrick Johnson and his wife Cynthia, and his grandchildren Conor, Catriona, and Bradley. He is also survived by his siblings Wilma Bernardini, Kenneth Johnson and his wife Joan, Woody (Paul) Johnson, Wanda Champion, Judy McMillan and her husband Mark, and Donald (Donnie) Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his son Kenneth Johnson, his parents Bub and Irene Johnson, his brother James (Darrell), his sister Francis (Sis), and his brother Finis (Lyndon). Bob is also survived by many loving family members and loyal friends. Bob will be tremendously missed by everyone whose life he touched.
Visitation will be at the Crofts- Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City on September 27th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, September 28th, at 11 AM at the Hopewell Cemetery in Liberty Hill, TX, and will be officiated by his brother Donnie.
