Obituary

Como te ves, mi vi, y como me ves te veras
(as you see yourself, I once was, and as you see me, you'll see yourself)

Rodolfo Corpus Reyes 76, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025 in Johnson City, TX.  He was born in Blanco County to Mered Corpus Reyes and Refugio Reyes on January 31, 1948.

Rodolfo was preceded in death by his loving parents, two sisters, Ruby Reyes Ortiz, Berta Corpus Reyes Ruiz, a brother, Ruben Reyes, and loving grandparents, Maria and Zenon Corpus.

Rodolfo is survived by his sisters, Dominga Perez, Pauline Ortiz, Victoria Guzman, Esmeralda Smith  husband(T.J.) Smith, Rebecca Uballe and Husband(Tony)Uballe, and Yolanda C. Reyes; brothers, Cresencio Reyes, Juan Reyes and wife (Penia) Reyes, Refugio Reyes, Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Although Rodolfo was born in Blanco County and raised in Johnson City, he resided in Houston, TX where he spent the majority of his life being a Texas Educator of Liberal Arts.  Rodolfo had two years of high school before joining the U.S. Army serving from 1968 to 1970, then with the Army Reserves from 1970 to 1974 where he then joined the Gary Job Corps and completed Advanced Electronics in 1968.  Rodolfo was always thirsty for knowledge and a firm believer in education.  He continued his education at Southwest Texas State University where he received his bachelor's degree in 1978 and his Austin Provisional Certificate for High School.  Rodolfo then moved to Austin and attended the University of Texas where he received his master's degree in 1982 along with his Texas Provisional Certificate in High School English/Spanish and French.  He then moved to Houston where he established his roots at Jefferson Middle School and was an educator for 30 years.  Not only was Rodolfo an educator but was very passionate about the arts.  He received a grant from the Texas Folk Life Resources for teaching carton-era skills to apprentices in the traditional art forms for Dia de los Muertos.  Rodolfo was a self-taught artist and was published in the Houston Chronicle for his achievements and cultural background.  He is a registered professional artist.  Just before retiring from education, Rodolfo spent a summer in Marfa, TX teaching art where some of his art still is on display.

As we sit here today, we not only remember Rodolfo for his achievements but as a loving brother, uncle, educator, and artist.  As vibrant as his passion was for education, it was equally as passionate for his Mexican American heritage.

Rodolfo will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
