Roland Richard Hartmann , 80, of Johnson City passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, in Fredericksburg.
He was born Oct. 27, 1938, in Blanco County, the son of Chester Hartmann and Elsa Klappenbach Hartmann. He married Doris Itz on June 7, 1959, in Trinity Lutheran Church at Stonewall, and she survives.
Roland graduated from LBJ High School in Johnson City in 1957, and shortly thereafter, began a 30-plus-year career with the Texas Department of Transportation in Johnson City.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, where he served a number of terms on the church council, taught Sunday School and served on various committees.
Following retirement, the Hartmanns moved to Post Oak and Roland had time to pursue ranching, gardening, woodworking, carpentry and most importantly, hunting. He enjoyed making sets of wooden dominoes and crosses.
In addition to his wife, Roland is survived by three children and their spouses, Russell and Yvonne Hartmann, Rodney Hartmann and Sophie and Bill Dixie.
He is also survived by two granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Kelsey and Levi Robison, and Alyssa Hartmann; two great-granddaughters, Dacey Robison and Allie Robison, and a third great-granddaughter due in June.
Survivors also include two brothers and their spouses, Calvin and Sonja Hartmann and Karl and Janice Hartmann, and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elsa Jordan, and Linda and Emil Uecker.
Please join the family for fellowship and visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at First United Methodist Church of Johnson City, 105 LBJ Dr., Johnson City.
