Boatright
Sep 26, 1957 — Jun 5, 2023
Blanco
Rory Alan Boatright , beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on June 5, 2023, at the age of 65. He was born on September 26, 1957, in Waco, Texas, to the late William Harold Boatright and Norma Joyce Hall Boatright.
Rory spent his formative years in Northern Virginia before pursuing his education. He began his academic journey at the University of Virginia and later returned to Austin, where he completed his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Texas in 1979.
With a strong passion for numbers and financial expertise, Rory embarked on a successful 43-year career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). A.W. Moursund played a pivotal role in the early stages of his career. Rory's exceptional skills and work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Rory was a man of many interests and talents. He was a proud member of MENSA, a testament to his exceptional intellect. Rory was also a devout University of Texas fan, always cheering for his beloved Longhorns. He had a deep appreciation for history, particularly the Civil War, and spent countless hours as a devoted civil war historian. One of his most cherished possessions is a Civil War cannon that he would often throw small fireworks into the end of the barrel to watch them explode out on special occasions or on holidays. Rory's love for reading and his passion for genealogy were evident throughout his life. Rory and Hollis traveled across the Northeast in search of ancestral documents and gravesites in their genealogical research. Rory was known for being spontaneous and a character who always dressed up in unusual and funny attire. He never shied away from taking photos or videos.
In his leisure time, Rory found solace and joy in fishing for redfish in Port Mansfield. It was there that he would unwind and connect with nature. Family trips were another cherished aspect of Rory's life, creating lasting memories with his loved ones. One of Rory's special places was Boat's Tavern. He enjoyed creating and sharing Boat's Tavern t-shirts with friends and family, and he loved when they would share pictures wearing the shirts as they traveled to unique places across the world. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and treasured the moments he spent with them.
Rory leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 31 years, Hollis (West) Boatright, his children: Michael Boatright and wife Tahra, Megan Coats and husband Jonathan, Matthew Boatright, Colt Petri and wife Amy, and Keisha Petri. Rory is also survived by his caring brothers, Randy Boatright and wife Janet, and Rusty Boatright. His memory will be treasured by his seven grandchildren: Drake, Duke, Brooklyn, Mack, Rye, Annabelle, and Addison. He also leaves behind numerous relatives and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Rory was preceded in death by his parents, William Harold Boatright and Norma Joyce Hall Boatright, and his sister-in-law, Cathy Boatright.
The impact Rory made on the lives of those who knew him will never be forgotten. His kindness, wisdom, and warm presence will continue to inspire and guide us. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
