ROY ALVARADO
NOVEMBER 18, 1951 – JANUARY 13, 2021
Roy Alvarado, age 69, passed away peacefully, at home in Spring Branch TX, on January 13, 2021 with family at his side. He was born on November 18, 1951 in San Antonio, TX to Carlos Alvarado Sr. and Isabel (Guerra) Alvarado. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Beatrice (Alvarado) Rios and his brother Salomon Alvarado.
Roy was a proud 1971 honor graduate of South San High School, where he participated in many extracurricular activities including basketball and track. He was an avid bowler and softball player. He was also a member of the Road Buccaneers car club. He loved to reminisce, and gladly shared stories, about the "adventures" and "misadventures" he had with his many South San friends.
Roy joined the San Antonio Fire Department in 1979. He served his community proudly as a Firefighter and Paramedic for over 33 years, retiring in 2013. Being a Firefighter/Paramedic allowed him to spend a lot of time with his children doing what he always did best – being the best Dad /"Pops" anyone could ever ask for. He serve as a coach for several of their sports teams over the years, and when not coaching was their chauffer and most dedicated cheer-leader. Once his Grandchildren were born, he added "Best Papi Ever" to his resume. He always said his legacy would be his children; and it is.
Roy always enjoyed the simple things in life, like spending time with family, watching sports, doing projects around the house, and solving the world's most pressing problems, single malt scotch in hand, at the annual "Rockport Summit" with his closest Firefighter Brothers. He had a passion for drawing, and his family always cherished the cartoon sketches he made in their Birthday Cards. He loved dancing to his favorite Tejano music, but enjoyed all genres including Rap, R&B and even a little Country. Seeing him tear up the floor in his MC Hammer pants was quite the treat in the day. He will always be remembered for his patience, compassion, dedication to family and loyalty to friends.
Roy is survived by his soulmate and wife of 39 years, Carrie-Ann (Ford) Alvarado, their pup Kapono and their children and grandchildren; daughter Jessica Alvarado-Brannan, her husband Ryan and grandchildren Logan and Hayden; son Isaac Alvarado, his wife Lacy (Dabbs) and grandchildren Evan and Bailey; son Allex his wife Stephani (Olfers) and grand pups Minion, Butters and Gidget Grace. He is also survived by his sister Maria Cruz (Alvarado) Castillo and her family, his brother Carlos Alvarado Jr., and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He will be missed by all!
