Obituary

Roy Henry Gipson, 86, passed away December 27, 2014 in Fredericksburg, TX. Roy was born October 6, 1928 near Johnson City, TX the son of George and Mary Ruth Wolf Gipson. He graduated from Johnson City High School in 1946 where he played basketball and was a member of 4-H.
He married Lillian Schaefer of Fredericksburg on June 28, 1953 in Stonewall, TX at Trinity Lutheran Church. Roy was baptized and he and his wife joined the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City in June 1955. They had two children Gaylon and Tami Gipson.
On February 1, 1947 Roy started working for the LCRA through Pedernales Electric Coop. In 1950 he had to take a leave of absence as he was drafted into the United States Army where he spent his time in California, Japan and then on the front lines of Korea. He returned to work with Pedernales Electric Coop in November 1952. He held many different positions during his 44 years of service until his retirement on February 1, 1991.
Roy helped organize the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1947 and was fire chief for 15 years. He worked with the Fair Association for 9 years beginning in the mid 50's, had a life membership in the VFW, served on the Johnson City City Council for 11 years and was mayor pro tem in years passed. Roy had served on the church administration board where he had served as chairman for 2 consecutive years. He worked with Boy Scouting and served as Scout Master for several years until the end of 1980. He also had worked with little league baseball.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Lillian Schaefer Gipson, sisters, Vera Ruth Hirsch, Opal Ray Gipson, and Lelia Kent and a brother, G.R. Gipson. He is survived by his son, Gaylon Gipson and wife Kathryn; daughter, Tami Waller and husband Jase; five grandchildren, Cory Gipson, Nicole Gipson, Bailey Waller, Kendyl Waller, and Hayden Waller; brother M.B. "Hoot" Gipson and many other loving relatives and dear friends.
Visitation will be 5:00 ? 7:00 PM Monday, December 29, 2014 at Crofts ? Crow Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Interment will follow in Der Stadt Friedhof Cemetery in Fredericksburg. In Lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O.
