Obituary

Sharon McConathy Blake (Sherry) , 80, passed away in Austin, Texas on Sunday, August 17, 2025.  She was born in Jonesboro, Louisiana on July 9, 1945.  She graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School, where she was a majorette and Miss Merry Christmas, in 1963.  That same year, she married the love of her life, Joe Blake.  Words cannot even describe how proud she was to be his wife but until he passed away in 2021 she would only sign her name Mrs. Joseph C. Blake.  When Joe finished his engineering degree at Louisiana Tech, they moved to New Orleans where they thoroughly enjoyed all of the entertainment and Mardi Gras.  They moved to Houston in 1965 and settled into suburban life in the North Channel area.  She was blessed with her daughter Laura in 1968 and her son Chris in 1975.  Sherry was put on this earth to be a mother.  She delighted in every detail and moment of raising her children.  She was known by their friends for being as nice and supportive as she was beautiful.  Her heart was filled with love and respect for everyone she met and she would worry and pray for the resolution of even the smallest of problems if someone had communicated  that to her. Due to the age difference of her kids, she was one of the longest running room mothers at North Shore Elementary and was a tireless supporter of the North Shore High School Band.  She was also involved in all of the children's activities and music at Uvalde Baptist Church.

Sherry's crowning glory was the birth of her four grandchildren, who she adored unconditionally and spent hours  playing with them and doing exactly what they wanted!

In 2017 Sherry and Joe moved to Johnson City, Texas where they spent the remainder of their years enjoying the Texas Hill Country.

She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Calvin Blake, her parents James Lamoine and Edith Hearne McConathy, and  her brother James L. McConathy, Jr. (Mack).

Sherry is survived by her daughter, Laura Blake Adair and husband Allen, her son Christopher Joseph Blake and wife Christin, and  her sister-in-law who is her sister by choice, Sandy Blake.  She also leaves her precious grandchildren, Hunter Coltin Blake and wife Hannah, John Aidan Adair, Olivia Louise Adair and Mason Christopher Blake.

Early Sunday morning, the light in our world became more dim as her body was restored to its heavenly glory.  May we all be inspired to treat our family, friends and strangers with a love and respect that represents Sherry Blake.

Burial service will be held at a later date for both Sherry and Joe at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in their home town, Jonesboro, Louisiana.
