Obituary

Shirley Grace Klinger Twidwell passed away February 14, 2017 at Cibolo Creek Nursing and Rehab facility in Boerne.  Shirley was born on December 29, 1938 in the old courthouse in Blanco to parents Gilbert and Wanice (Montgomery) Klinger.  She grew up in Blanco, starting work at the age of 13 as a cashier at the Blanco movie theatre.  After graduating from Blanco High School, she attended business school and went on to work for the Pedernales Electric Company.  On July 4, 1962 she married Otto Twidwell and continued to work for the PEC while he finished teachers college in San Marcos.  Their daughter, Lea, was born in April of 1966 and Shirley stayed home to raise her for the next 13 years.  In 1979 she and Otto decided to buy a Peterbilt truck and become long haul truck drivers.  She continued to drive across country until her father became ill in 1993 and she stopped working to help him through his illness.  After Otto retired, they then enjoyed several years of traveling just for recreation.  Otto passed away in 2000, and Shirley moved with Lea to live in her dream log cabin in Henly. In 2010 Shirley was diagnosed with dementia and went to live at the Cibolo Creek Nursing and Rehab facility where she received wonderful care and made many new friends among both staff and residents.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Otto Twidwell and her parents Gilbert and Wanice Klinger.  She is survived by her daughter Lea Twidwell and fiancé Myron Yoshioka, as well as brother-in-law and wife Ben and Sara Twidwell.  She is also survived by her aunt Daisy Montgomery as well as several cousins.
