Stephen "Steve" Edward Matthews, Sr. , 80, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019.  He was born November 19, 1938 in Charleston, WV to Basil and Ruth Matthews.

After 22 years of honorable service, Steve retired from the United States Air Force at the rank of Master Sergeant.  Steve and his wife Charlotte then moved to Johnson City where they owned and operated the Hill Country Cupboard restaurant for 19 years.  Being the consummate proprietor, Steve then obtained his Real Estate Broker's license and he and Charlotte owned and operated Home Ranch Realty.

Steve is survived by is loving wife of 58 years, Charlotte (Chowen) Matthews; children, Victoria Bacon and husband Ron, Steve Matthews, Jr., and Chris Matthews and wife Jennifer; sister, Stephaney Hardie; grandchildren, Matthew Bacon, Jacob Bacon, Mike & Angie Bacon, and Jim & Amy Bacon; great grandchildren, Jenny, Justin, Sam, and Zach.

His was preceded in death by four siblings, Buddy, Patsy, David, and Barbara.

A memorial service honoring and celebrating Steve's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 21, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Johnson City, 102 N. Ave. F, Johnson City, TX 78636.
