Obituary

Sydna Lee (McLaurin) Lynn , of Johnson City, Texas, passed into the arms of her Lord on the morning of August 15 th , 2019.  Her love of family, enjoyment of time with friends, and her dedication to educating children are among her many legacies and gifts she leaves to those whose lives she touched.

Sydna McLaurin was born on January 19 th , 1939, to Raymond Anson "Bud" McLaurin and Ira F. "Mama Dude" McLaurin in Snyder, Texas.  She grew up in Post, Justiceburg, and Amarillo, and graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1957 and West Texas State University in 1967.  She began her career teaching in 1965 and touched many young lives over the next 37 years.

She met the love of her life, Hank Lynn, in 1966.  They were married on June 10 th , 1967, in Amarillo, and were blessed with a son, Kelly, and two daughters, LeAndre and LuCydne.  The family moved to Dimmitt in 1969, where Syd raised her family, participated in church, taught at the elementary school, and touched countless friends and family members with her kindness, laughter, hospitality, and cooking.  Her love for faith, family, friends, and food blessed all around her throughout her life.  Syd and Hank moved to Johnson City, Texas, in 2006, to be closer to the grandkids that they loved so much.

Syd is survived by her husband, Hank; a son, Kelly, and his wife, Cyndi, of Hico, and grandchildren, Blaine Lynn and Amanda Carter; daughter, LeAndy Pletcher, husband, Matt, and granddaughter, Millie, of Johnson City; daughter LuCydne Wittkohl, husband, Billy, grandson, James, and granddaughter, Sawyer Lynn, of Johnson City; sister, Jerry Lou Cook, of Amarillo; brother, George McLaurin, and his wife, Ruby, of Wheeler; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.  Syd was preceded in death by her father and mother.

A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Johnson City on Monday, August 18 th , at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Johnson City Community Education Foundation.
