Teresa Kay
Leonard
Dec 4, 1956 — Jun 1, 2021
San Antonio
Teresa Kay Leonard , 64, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, 6/1/21. She is well now, mentally and physically, and is with her loving parents. Teresa was born on December 4, 1956, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James Ross and Yvonne Leonard; and survived by her sisters, Sharon Pope (David) and Janice Fox (Larry Balko); nephew, Chuck Schuetz (Katie); niece, Vanessa Fox-Norton (Jason); nephew, Jimmy Fox (Andrea); aunt, Jeanette Pickard (Bill); great-nieces, Randa Pope, Hailey Fox, Siena Schuetz, Evelyn Schuetz, and Ella Kate Schuetz; great-nephews, Haden Fox, Travis Norton, Jacob Norton, and David Herold.
Teresa's life was occupied with music, activities in her dorm, getting a Coke at the resident center and being outside in nature. She was the brave one in the family due to her endurance and strength to strive to overcome mental and physical disabilities. Her parents searched for care through specialized doctors, medical research, special schools, and universities. The mid-century era did not have the resources and knowledge to diagnose brain malfunction. Therefore, families kept their children at home without the advantage of education or treatment. Finding answers for families ranged from demon possession to recommendations for shock treatments, mind numbing, addictive medications, frontal lobotomy, etc. The winning note in searching for answers and the unknown was found in the absolute love and support of family with their assistance of care and financial contributions.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, 6/5/21 at 9:00 am with funeral services immediately following at 10:00 am at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home, Johnson City, Texas. She will be laid to rest next to her parents at the Johnson City Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations payable to San Antonio State Supported Living Center, Home 766, 6711 South New Braunfels, Suite 500, San Antonio, Texas, 78223; or First United Methodist Church, 105 LBJ Drive, Johnson City, Texas, 78686.
