Theresa Joan (Plisek) Shafford, age 87, passed away on Oct. 2, 2018, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Goltry, Oklahoma to Joe and Nell (Dain) Plisek on Feb. 19, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents Joe and Nell Plisek, her sister Barbara Pekrul, and her brother in law Hart Pekrul. She is survived by daughter Katie Shafford, son Bill Shafford, his wife Becky and their three children: Lauren, Emily, and Charlie, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Joan, as she liked to be called, started singing at a young age with her sister Barbara in Church and at weddings. After graduating High School, she attended St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas in 1949, and graduated in 1952. She worked at hospitals in Enid, Oklahoma and Austin, Texas. She married Bill Shafford on Jan 14 1961. They were married for 46 years. Joan and Bill lived in Austin until 1987, then moved out to Blanco, where they made many friends in Johnson City and in Blanco. She was very active in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Johnson City, and was awarded the Lumen Gentium in 2013.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, October 19, 2018 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 285 281 Loop Rd, Johnson City, TX 78636 where a Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM that evening. A memorial mass will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 20, 2018. A family burial service will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Catholic Church building fund.
