Thomas "Tom" Avants, 69 of Blanco, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 in San Antonio surrounded by his family. Tom was born on October 30, 1947 in Munich, Germany to Gorden and Sofia (Novak) Avants. Tom proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. Tom served two tours in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. Tom was a combat engineer attached to the Special Forces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Cheryl Conaway, and brother in law Larry Bodiford.  Tom is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Roxanna (Denning) Avants, a daughter, Deborah Leigh Alaniz, granddaughter-daughter, Amaya Joielle Avants, two sisters Jean Trucks and husband Gary, Wanda Bodiford, a brother in law, Richard Denning, three nieces: Laura Day and Bill, Paula Gorzell and Randy, Tammy Skloss and David, three nephews; Lonnie Bodiford and Jalyn, Todd Tapp and Laura, and James Tapp and Karen, as well as six great nephews and three great nieces, and many loving and supportive cousins.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco, Texas. Funeral services will be held at the Blanco Cowboy Church on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Burial with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 9:45 AM at Fort Sam Houston Veterans Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. San Antonio, TX 78209, under the direction of Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco, Texas.
