Obituary

Thorvald "Thor" H. Olson, 92, passed away October 30, 2017 in Humble, Texas. Thor was born in Quinnesec, Michigan on November 22, 1924 to Thorvald H. Olson, Sr. and Mary Elder. He was preceded in death by his parents; his dear wife Arlene Lola Baker Olson; sister Bonnie; and brothers Dick and Damon.

Thor is survived by his 5 children, 13 grandchildren and an ever-growing number of great grandchildren.

Thor grew up in the difficult years of the American Depression. He and his brother Dick worked on farms for room and board at a very early age, members of "The Great Generation".  At 17 he joined the U.S. Army Airborne and became a combat medic for the 17th Airborne Division. Seeing combat in the European Theater, Battle of the Bulge, the Ardennes, and Operation Varsity.  Returning home, he met Arlene "Lee" whom he loved dearly.

Thor worked for 30 years at Monsanto Chemical Plant in Texas City.  He loved camping, the outdoors and flying. Thor moved to Blanco in the early 70's where he and Lee built their "love nest on the hill" and helped many others build their love nests in the area, even winning the prestigious Hill Country Ranch's Man of the Year award.

Thor always active, was also a member of the Henly Volunteer Fire Department in Henly, Texas.

Visitation will be 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM Monday, November 6, 2017 at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco.  Graveside services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Blanco Historical Cemetery.
