Obituary

Tommy Cecil Thurlkill, born March 18, 1940, in Wichita Falls, Texas, and died October 27, 2015, in Johnson City, Texas. Tommy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Deering Thurlkill, five children: Sherri Strickland and husband, LaWayne, Bruce Thurlkill and wife, Amy Nicole, Amy Lynn Thurlkill, Carlos Thurlkill and wife, Courtne, and Chris Thurlkill and wife, Sofi, seven grandchildren, Britni Johnston and husband, Jordan, Bridget Strickland, Caitlan, Daniel and Emma Thurlkill, Aleigh and Brax Thurlkill and one great grandson, Jack Bruce Johnston. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Cecil Pleman Thurlkill and Betty Sue Thurlkill, and his sister, Judge Betty Ann (Missy) Caton.

Tommy grew up in Archer City, Texas, graduated from Archer City High School, attended TCU and then transferred to the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with BS and MA degrees in Petroleum Engineering.

Tommy was actively involved in the oil business for many years working both abroad and in North Texas. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Upon retiring from the oil business, Tommy pursued his dream of living part time in Mexico and fishing. He was also a member of the Johnson City Lions Club.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 30, 2015, at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home, 305 East Elm in Johnson City, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Johnson City Library or the charity of choice.
