Vernon Allen Steele was born to James and Minerva Steele in San Antonio, Tx on May 12, 1927 and passed from this life on July 20, 2013 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his daughter Marsalyn Eppler. He is survived by his wife, Barbarba Steele of 67 yrs, 9 sons, Randy and wife Karen, Rob and wife Cathy, Paul and wife Sue, Greg and wife LaKay, Tim and wife Jeanette, Kelly and wife Nikki, Mike and wife Lupita, Bart and wife Desiree, Sam and wife Tonya, one daughter Maryann and husband Randy Mayville, 33 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, bringing his total down line to 130. He is also survived by one sister-in-law Olga Steele, one brother-in-law Ed Price, numerous, nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.

He graduated from Marble Falls High school and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon his honorable discharge in July of 1946 he attended Tx A&I in Kingsville,Tx, where he studied Animal Husbandry. He then went on to get his basics and study Architecture in West Tx State Normal College, Canyon Tx, Texas Tech, Lubbock, Tx and finally University of Tx, in Austin, Tx.

Vernon was a builder, he built everything from small compacted dirt bricks that he hoped to use in building inexpensive housing to a pedal flying machine. Most of his building was in the housing industry which started by Grandad Middleton, his dad and himself building a house in Kingsville, Tx where he attended College. For lumber, he used milled oak trees from the ranch in Spicewood. He also designed and built the "dome" UPC in Johnson City which was so original in design it was featured in the President Johnson ranch display.

He was baptized in Jesus Name in Burnet Tx in the early 50's and received the initial experience of the Holy Ghost in Marble Falls, Tx where he was a member of the United Pentecostal Church for many years. His most recent Holy Ghost renewal was this past Fathers Day where he told his wife? "tounges just flowed out of me". Then the following Thursday he and most of his immediate family experienced the fire of the Holy Ghost in a family prayer meeting.

Anyone who knew Vernon knew that he was a direct, "no nonsense" man. On one occasion he made this comment? I don't like weddings, parties, funerals and would not even go to my own if I didn't have to. He did not want anyone to make a big 'to do" over him but today he was out voted because he effected his family with such direction that one of his grandsons said, "a man is known by his children, which the scripture say are arrows shot from a bow?. where these arrows have landed tells the real story of pappaw's life". Vernon Steele, the "no nonsense man", has made a lot of sense and will be severely missed by all.

Visitation will be 6:00 PM ? 8:00 PM, Monday, July 22, 2013 at the HOME Church in Johnson City where funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday morning. Interment will follow at the Middleton Ranch.
