Wanda Elizabeth Wise Elbel passed to her reward on Sept. 23, 2006. She was Born August 21, 1923. Wanda attended Edgar Allen Poe Jr. High. She attained the rank of Major in the ROTC at San Antonio Vocational & Technical School (Now Fox Tech High School) Graduating in 1941. She rode on the school float in the Battle of Flowers Parade in 1940. Wanda married Fred P. Elbel March 13, 1943 and Traveled to California many times to welcome him back after tours of combat duty. She served as the long distance telephone call monitor during WWII and later served as a switchboard operator at Trinity University.Loving wife of Freddie for over 59 years.Accomplished homemaker, cook and gardener, Wanda was known for her excellent homecooked meals of many varied and nutritional dishes, and the canned and pickled items from her large garden.She loved to crochet and her handiworks were highly prized. Recently she lived alone and maintained her spotless household until only about one year ago.She was proceeded in death by her husband and is survived by her sister Gloria, three sons, three grandchildren and three great grand children. Rosary at the Crofts Funeral home (830-833-4523) in Blanco, TX 6PM Wednesday. Services at St Ferdinand's Catholic Church at 2PM Thursday. Dinner at 4:30PM.
