Obituary

Weldon William Jonas was born March 5, 1933, to Hugo and Janie Triesch Jonas. He was born on the family farm in Blanco along the Blanco River where his family raised cotton, corn, sugar cane and made molasses. They all enjoyed bowling and once a month, the family worked at Twin Sisters Dance Hall making and selling hamburgers for twenty-five cents each. He went to school in Blanco and graduated from Blanco High School in 1951. He joined the Navy on July 3, 1951 and would go on to serve his country during the Korean war for 4 years. While in the Navy he traveled the world on the USS O'Bannon, a destroy ship. After serving in the Navy, he came back to Texas and got a job heat treating parts for Dow Chemical Company. He worked for Dow Chemical for 10 years before getting a Civil Service job at Kelly Air force base heat-treating aircraft parts. He lived in Blanco and would drive to San Antonio Texas everyday with his two brothers, Jerome and Maxie and their friend Lee Roy Jung. They all rode together not talking much but would take turns driving. He received awards from Kelly for outstanding attendance, since he was rarely sick and never took days off except to go on the annual hunting trip to Colorado with his brothers and friends. In 1967, He got married to Margaret Dean, became a stepfather to Denise and had a son Ty. He enjoyed playing football, riding his horse, doing leather work, hunting, and fishing.
