Wilburn A. (Mutt) FreerMutt was born April 4, 1920 to Charles W. and Minnie Freer in San Diego, Texas. He passed away March 29, 2005 at the age of 84.Growing up in Freer, Texas (a town named after his grandfather) Mutt was an outstanding athlete in high school excelling in football and track. In 1939 his family moved to a ranch in the Sandy Community just outside of Johnson City. There he met his loving wife Berniece Hunnicutt and they made there home on the ranch. Their marriage, of over 64 years, produced two sons Royce Dale and David Ray. Mutt was devoted to his family, a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Johnson City and when time allowed he enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He had a witty sense of humor and loved pulling pranks on his wife, sons and nephews.Mutt was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Arlie Freer of Fort Worth, Texas.  He is survived by his wife, Berniece; son Dale of Johnson City; and son David and his wife Karen, and grandson Jason of Johnson City. Granddaughters, Jennifer and her husband Patrick Demeester and great-grandson Caden of Celina, Texas; Nichole Wingo of Austin and Melanie Wingo of Austin. He leaves behind two sisters, Odell Starke and Myrtle McLendon both of Johnson City and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to the United Methodist Church in Johnson City or a charity of your choice.The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2005 at Crofts Funeral Home.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Crofts Funeral Home with Brother Bill Wiemers officiating.  Pallbearers are Jason Freer, Gary Freer, Jerry Sparkman, Dennis Sparkman, Robert Schmidt and Randy Sultemeier.  Interment will follow at the Round Mountain Cemetery.
