William Barnaby
"Barney" Cox
Jun 17, 1973 — Jan 28, 2026
Blanco
William Barnaby "Barney" Cox , a Florida man in Texas, passed away on January 28th, 2026. He was born June 17th, 1973 in Miami, Florida to Bill and Petey Cox.
Barnaby was enigmatic, magnetic and completely his own individual. He was funny and charming. He loved his daughters and his parents.
He had an adventurous spirit, and valued his connections to others. He lived with and provided for his daughters for many years. He was always proud of them and supported all their endeavors, encouraging them to create art. He valued his relationship with them, as he loved spending time with them. As of late, he devoted his time to helping those in need, having been awakened to a need to serve and unburden others. He spent the majority of his last years working to improve the lives of those in his community. He was pursuing education and sought to become a mentor to others.
He walked many paths in life, having worked in real estate and mortgages, as a salesman and business owner. He even dabbled briefly in motorcycle sales and carpet cleaning. He lived in South Florida; New York City; Olympia, Washington; Claremont, California; Merida and Chicxulub, Mexico; and finally, Blanco, Texas. He traveled all over the United States and the world - Central and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
If you asked him, he wouldn't have called himself an artist. Yet, he had the artist's eye, surrounding himself with beauty. He had an incredible talent for ceramics. He made beautiful pots; in his studio, you might pick up a piece and remark on its beauty only to hear his response that it didn't make the cut. Ever the collector, his home was always filled with items he brought home from his travels.
Those who loved him will remember him when they go on a road trip, cook up a good steak, drive a fast car, or cry while watching a good movie.
William Barnaby was preceded in death by his parents Petey and Bill Cox. He is survived by his sisters Georgia and Hannah Cox; his daughters Penelope, Annie, Clementine, Lyla, Dorothy, Sylvia, Prudence, and Caroline Cox; his cousin Eddy Palmer; his lifelong friend Leo Clavel; and a legion of friends.
He is gone far too soon. He was a force of nature. He will be missed everlong.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memoriam may be made to Corazon Ministries in San Antonio, TX.
A celebration of life will be hosted by the Cox Girls at St Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church in Blanco, TX at 2pm on Saturday, February 7th, 2026.
