Obituary

Woodrow "Woody" Wilson Butler, Jr. of Johnson City passed away peacefully February 5, 2023 in San Marcos, TX. He was born August 3, 1938, in Odessa, Texas where he was raised by his parents, Thelma Smith Collier and Dee Collier.  Woody proudly served his country with the U.S Air Force intelligence during the Korean War.  He later became owner of Lariat Ranch Wear in Austin where he made many dear friends in the 31 years he was there. Being a long-time member of Dripping Springs First Baptist, Woody was honored to accept the position of Deacon at Oak Hill First Baptist Church where he and his wife remained throughout the years.

Woody is survived by his wife of 54 years Carolyn Butler; his four sons, Tim Butler and wife Eraina, Paul Butler and wife Debbie, David Butler and wife Jane, and Mark Butler and wife Cami; grandchildren Travis, Tyler, Tracie, Justin, Matthew, Brandon, Lacy, Ashely, Roxanne, Priscilla, and Matt; and sister, Brenda Campbell and husband Cim. He is also survived by eleven great grandchildren and many other loving relatives and a host of dear friends.

Mr. Butler was preceded in death by both his parents and sister Shirley Long.

In his spare time Woody enjoyed going to the family's land and fishing from the numerous ponds they had to choose from. Most importantly Woody was a family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 11, 2023 at First Baptist Church – Dripping Springs with Rev. David McNary officiating, 203 Hwy 290 W., Dripping Springs, TX 78620.  A visitation will begin at 10:00 am that morning at church.  Graveside services will be held that afternoon at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Warda, TX.
